The Long Beach Women’s Amateur Championships
In 1928, a “Mrs. F. G. Wilson” captured the very first Long Beach Women’s City Championship (a reminder of a time when women’s first names rarely made the record books). Since then, the champions of the Women’s City have been carefully preserved in Long Beach golf history.
But what about the many women who posted the best net scores over the years? Didn’t they deserve recognition as well? We believe they did.
That belief led to the creation of a second championship—one designed specifically to honor excellence in handicap-based competition.
Two Championships. One Legacy.
Beginning in 2019, the historic Women’s City officially evolved into two distinct tournaments, united under the banner of the Long Beach Women’s Amateur Championships.
- The Long Beach Women’s City Championship remains a pure gross competition for elite amateur players—continuing the tradition of championship-level golf that has defined the event for nearly a century.
- The Long Beach Women’s City Net Challenge is a net championship, created for players who prefer index-based competition. Golfers who previously competed in the Flighted or Indexed divisions of the Women’s City will now find their home here.
Together, these events ensure that outstanding performance—both gross and net—is properly celebrated.
